DIY manicure stuff. I don't use the plastic nail tips, thanks; I buy these kits for the gel and powder so I can make my own repairs, as I tend to let my nails get rather long sometimes. But I've been getting professional manicures for a while now, and the stuff in the little bottles gets gummy and sticky after a few months. I kept one jar of powder, and will buy more activator or whatever it is if and when I need it.
Also gone - 89 books, almost everything the used bookstore didn't take last night. Donated to Friends of the Library for their book sales/fundraisers. The few books I kept back may be worth something on Half.com. If they don't move, they go back in the donate to library pile, of which I am immediately starting a new one, since this batch of books was merely a first pass.
This is as good a time as any to mention a separate list I keep in a spreadsheet titled "1000 Things." I've been starting this list every year for the last few years in an attempt to document whether I can get rid of 1000 things in 365 days. I never succeed because I get tired of keeping up the list. I'm hoping this blog will inspire me to complete it this year, and I'm off to a good start, with 154 items so far.
It has to be actual Stuff, by the way - I don't count things that are obviously garbage that go out on a regular basis like empty milk cartons or recyclable plastics.
Had what I'll call a near miss at work last week. An email went out to the whole building: "Free T-shirts right now in the cafeteria." So a bunch of us nearly knocked each other over to get in there.
First of all, these were not "new." They were leftovers from when the company took a new name a couple of years ago and we were all supposed to make like billboards. Second, they were not something you'd want to wear - the logo on the front was reasonable, but there was some kind of mission-vision-values nonsense on the back that no one would be caught dead wearing anytime, anywhere. That part is made worse by the fact that the company has recently launched a rather unpopular initiative and the public will have no patience with these sentiments on a t-shirt or otherwise. Third, they were mostly size XXXLLLL. There were about two in a size that would technically fit me, but realistically would still be too unflattering to wear to the gym and probably not even be comfortable to sleep in. Fourth, I ALREADY HAVE A DRAWER FULL OF T-SHIRTS GIVING ME GRIEF. 25 of them, about five of which I actually wear. WTF was I thinking? Anyway, I caught myself in time and didn't drag anything new in here.
